Vim unter centos und das Clipboard

Bisher habe ich unter Linux immer vim installiert und konnte auch zwischen vim Instanzen Daten hin und her kopieren. Dafür habe ich extra in der .vimrc folgenden Eintrag hinzugefügt:
set clipboard=unnamedplus
Sollte die Version < 7.3.74 sein, lautet der Eintrag wie folgt:
set clipboard=unnamed
Das hat bisher unter Gentoo / Funtoo und auch Debian ohne Probleme funktioniert. Seit kurzem arbeite ich aber mit einer CentOS VM. Da funktioniert das überhaupt nicht.
Ein vim --version sieht da wie folgt aus:

Auf den ersten Blick sah das für mich erst mal ganz normal aus. Nach ein bischen sucheunter X zwischen zwei Instanzen kopiert werden soll :-( Mein erster Gedanke war direkt: "Mist, dann muss ich mir den vim selber kompilieren." (Als Hardcore funtoo User ist kompilieren immer die Lösung). Eine Suche mit yum fand aber folgendes Paket:
vim-X11.x86_64 : The VIM version of the vi editor for the X Window System
Dieses Paket installiert eine zusätzliche binary vimx. Schnell einmal vimx mit --version aufgerufen:

Und schon klappts auch mit dem kopieren. Damit ich es einfacher habe, habe ich mir dafür einfach einen alias angelegt, der unter X vim durch vimx ersetzt.
